It was a busy and enjoyable week for our Rosminian boys, especially our Filipino students, who had the opportunity to participate in and celebrate Filipino Language Week, held from 3–7 August. The week was filled with lunchtime activities that brought students together to experience, learn about, and celebrate Filipino culture.
We opened the week with a Karaoke Jam, where R5 was filled with boys from different cultural backgrounds who willingly came along to learn more about Filipino culture and support the students who volunteered to sing. The activity was a real hit! It created a wonderful atmosphere of connection and camaraderie, with everyone joining in, having fun, and enjoying a taste of Filipino culture.
On Tuesday, lunchtime was dedicated to SIPA Making, a traditional Filipino game. The boys enjoyed creating their own DIY sipa and learning about a traditional Filipino pastime.
Wednesday brought a Kahoot Challenge focused on Philippine culture. The activity provided a fun and engaging way for students to discover interesting facts about the Philippines and gain a glimpse into what makes Filipino culture unique.
On Thursday, it was time to put their DIY sipa to the test. The boys participated in a friendly SIPA competition, showing off their creativity, skills, and competitive spirit while encouraging and supporting one another.
Finally, the highlight of the week was our Salu-Salo. Students had the opportunity to share and showcase a variety of Filipino foods, and we were especially blessed to have Filipino whānau who supported and contributed to this meaningful celebration. We are also incredibly grateful to our Rosmini Filipino boys who took the initiative, stood up, and helped make this special occasion possible.
Filipino Language Week was not only about learning a language. It was about celebrating identity, sharing culture, building connections, fostering friendship, and creating a sense of belonging. It was about giving our Filipino students an opportunity to be proud of their heritage while inviting everyone in our Rosmini community to learn, participate, and celebrate with us.
