E-Learning at Rosmini College

Students in Years 9 - 13 must bring a computing device to school to be used for educational purposes. The device chosen is up to parents to decide, however, it should be purchased with your son's education in mind. We also have some minimum specifications below.

Rosmini College's E-Learning programme seeks to take education and learning to a whole new and exciting level that will both excite and stimulate students in their academic pursuits.

Our vision is to develop young men to prepare for a dynamic world by building confidence in their ability to use digital technologies in order to build curiosity and be active, connected, collaborative learners so that they are better prepared for the future.

The main purposes of this programme are as follows:

  • To provide students with the best educational tools and information available.
  • To prepare students for working in a collaborative and connected world.
  • To do the above while following best practice, and in a safe and healthy manner.

Although technology is a great educational tool, it is by no means the silver bullet of learning. As such we don't foresee students using technology all day, everyday but rather only as and when it truly supports and enhances learning.

Device Requirements

In order to ensure that your child's device is suited for the classroom, the device must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • A laptop with 10" screen minimum
  • Keyboard
  • 6 hour battery life
  • Able to operate a Google Chrome browser and Google Apps for Education

We do not recommend iPads or Tablets as suitable devices. Further, the device must:

  • Have a case
  • Be insured*
  • Have a record of the make, model, and serial number
  • Be safe and well maintained.

*An insurance policy separate from that of your "home and contents" policy is recommended as this usually has a much lower excess.

Device Offers and Suppliers

Families of Rosmini students can purchase from any store.  We do have relationships with Harvey Norman, PB Tech (use code BYOD2024 to unlock the PB education price) and Noel Leeming.  All three suppliers have worked with us to identify devices that are appropriate for our students.  They all provide bundle packages including extended warranties, and device cases, or you can purchase the devices on their own.

SchoolTV - Internet Addiction

In today’s digital environment, the internet can be viewed as a valuable tool for education, research and entertainment. Young people today tend to go from one screen to another, but how much is too much?

In this edition of SchoolTV, Dr Michael Carr-Gregg discusses what causes internet addiction, who is most at risk and what parents can do to regulate the amount of time their kids spend online each day.
