Water Polo: Premiers vs Old Boys 2026

Water Polo: Premiers vs Old Boys 2026

The Rosmini water polo community was treated to our annual Premier team vs Old Boy match on Sunday 7 June.  For the ‘older’ Old Boys it was a game where they remembered the days when they had immense skill, fitness and could play an entire game without rest. They were fortunate there were a huge amount of subs ready to roll in when the going got tough. Sunday proved that the younger old boys made the difference filling in the gaps when needed.

With five members of the North Harbour Men’s team in the Old Boy’s squad of 16, our young Premier players took a while to get on the score board, going down 12 -6 in the end. The highly anticipated fixture, featuring a star-studded lineup of former Prefects, Head Boys, and Deputy Boys, delivered a heated and memorable battle, with the young Premier team enjoying squaring up against former coaches and brothers.

While the final scoreline of 12-6 suggests a comfortable victory for the veterans, it belies the true intensity of the match. From the opening whistle, the Premier team looked to utilise their signature speed and agility. However, they were met with a masterclass in physicality, moustaches and seasoned tactics from the Old Boys, who relied heavily on their extensive experience and clever underwater play to control the game.

The after match function proved another opportunity for having a laugh together, looking at past photos as well as celebrating the Premier season. We farewelled our Year 13s; Thomas Markovina, James McIndoe, Ben Morrison, Billy Hindley and Ed Wescott. They were presented with their leaver’s caps and the rest of the team presented them with a special Taonga - a blessed Pounamu necklace which we hope the boys will wear with pride - a reminder of not only the special place they hold in our hearts but a reminder of the years at Rosmini and being part of the fantastic water polo whanau.

Until next time…..
