Rosmini College’s Year 12 and Year 13 Accounting students gained valuable real-world inspiration today during a guest presentation by former student Sam Aschebrock.
Six years after completing his studies at Rosmini College, Sam returned to his old stomping grounds to share his professional journey, life experiences, and knowledge of the financial sector. He currently works in corporate banking as a Product Associate at Westpac NZ.
Sam explained how the core financial frameworks taught in secondary school classrooms form the basis of large-scale corporate operations. He shared his path from navigating high school accounting to completing a conjoint commerce degree at the University of Auckland in Commerce and Science. He explained how you can combine your formal studies and your experiential learning to become successful. He also discussed his recent work managing merchant payments and institutional lending portfolios.
Students remained highly engaged throughout the entire session. Sam explained the implications of making bad life decisions as well as where ambition, passion and hard work can take year in reaching your potential and fulfilling your dreams.
This alumni visit offered students an excellent opportunity to see how secondary school commerce subjects apply directly to future careers. By hearing from someone who once sat in the exact same classrooms, the Year 12 and 13 cohorts gained a clear perspective on where their current academic choices can lead them.
The Commerce Department extends its gratitude to Sam for volunteering his time to give back to the school community and inspire the next generation of Rosmini professionals.
