Water Polo Nationals 2026

Rosmini Water Polo had a busy start to the school holidays with both senior teams playing in their respective National tournaments.

Rosmini Water Polo had a busy start to the school holidays with both teams playing in their respective National tournaments.

Senior A spent Easter in Wellington with old boy coaches, Mat Mihlajevich and Ethan McKolskey, alongside long time manager Liz Markovina and TIC Rachel Peak. It was a great tournament for this young team, who met new teams in all their matches. They only lost one game in pool play to eventual winners HBHS A, who had competed in the recent Div 1 North Islands. Year 12 Callum Khan was named in the Div 2 tournament team.

Well done to  Senior A on a fantastic senior season (winning Bronze at North Islands, 6th at Nationals) and thanks to the coaches, manager and all the parent supporters. While in Wellington, we were fortunate to see the Live Ocean swimmer Jono Ridler arrive into the city, spent time at the RSA and even squeezed in paintball at the end of the tournament!

Results:

  • Vs Rongotai/Wellington College Combined 11-7 Win
  • Vs HBHS A 4-9 Loss
  • Vs AGS 5-5 Draw
  • Vs CBHS B 7-7 Draw
  • Vs MBC 7-5 Win
  • Vs Kristin A 9-6 Win
  • Vs CBHS B for 5th/ 6th 4-5 loss

The Premier team remained in Auckland for their tournament this year. Not the result we were aiming for as the loss to nemesis St. Kents 7-10 in the first game meant we were out of the Top 8 in the tournament.

Playing eventual winners Tauranga Boys in pool play, losing 5-10, meant we were playing off for 9th place. The team drew with a determined Kristin team 9-9, drew again with CBHS 5-5 and then again with St. Bedes 5-5, only to beat St Peter’s 13-1 in a shortened competition due to the impending Cyclone.

Although not our Nationals for 2026, the young team kept the supporters entertained and celebrated goalie Ed Wescott’s 100th game for the Premier team during the tournament. An outstanding achievement as a loyal team mate and role model for others. For five of our Year 13 players; Thomas Markovina, Billy Hindley, James McIndoe, Ben Morrison and Ed Wescott, it was the end of an era, however they still get to play in the up and coming Old Boy’s event on 3 June.

Thank you to coaches, Lachie Griffiths, Will Catlin and manager Rachel Peak for their continued support and development of Rosmini Water Polo. Our time will come!
