At the recent North Island tournaments both the Senior A and Premier teams showcased a fast-paced, energetic style of play that kept spectators on the edge of their seats in true Rosmini style.
The Senior A team playing in Div. 2 against Premier teams from other schools had games against:
- Mt. Mauganui College (eventual winners) 12-7 loss
- St. Paul’s Collegiate 20-1 win
- Bethlehem College 6-5 win
- MAGS 8-6 win
- Kristin Premier 2-13 loss in semi final
- Rangitoto A 8-7 win for Bronze
The Senior A team provided the highlight of the tournament in the bronze medal match that will be remembered as a true "nail biter". With the clock winding down and the score locked, the team executed a daring final play that saw goalie Lewis Kemplen advance up the pool in the final seconds to score the winning goal in the final 2 secs of the match! This awesome finish secured the Bronze medal and served as a reminder to never give up.
Our Premier side displayed incredible athleticism and development throughout the competition. Playing against the top North Island schools, Rosmini Premier team drew with Kings 8-8 and lost to St. Kents 6-7 in pool play, missing out on the Top 8. They used the remaining 5 games to work on teamwork, communication and strategy in order to prepare well for the up and coming Nationals during the holidays. Wins against; SHC A2 16-9, St. Peters College 22-6, & 20-5, HBHS 7-2, and playing for 9th place against SHC A2 winning 6-5 in what was an improved Sacred side.
The momentum from the North Island tournaments carries us directly into the upcoming holidays, where our teams will represent the school at Nationals.
Senior A travel to Wellington to compete in their National tournament over Easter.
Premier Team are competing in the Division 1 Nationals held in Auckland, so look out @rosmini_ waterpolo on Instagram for game times. We would love your support.
