New aviation project underway
Following the success of the Savannah microlight build, we were able to engage some of our students in One Foot In The Cloud's next aviation project, which provided them with the opportunity to work with full-sized aircraft.
Last weekend, OFITC conducted a camp at Mercer Airfield, where students disassembled a twin-engine Beechcraft Duchess. We had seven Rosmini students (including four internationals from Korea), along with one each from Carmel, St Peter's, and Rutherford colleges. We also had seven university students from UOA and AUT. This aircraft is going to be used for parts to keep a fleet of other aircraft flying.
We worked under the supervision of a registered, Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer. The students completed a comprehensive Health and Safety induction process; as the program evolves, they will learn new skills and workflows and complete progress reports for the certifying authorities.
We hope to be running a range of training programs at Rosmini College that will allow students to work with groups in the aviation community to complete work on several home-built aircraft projects.
