Senior Sports Awards 2025

An evening dedicated to the sporting values Rosmini College instils: pride, determination, teamwork, and the honour of wearing 'the crest over your chest'

Rosmini College hosted its annual Senior Sports Awards on 23 October, an evening dedicated to celebrating the sporting achievements of its senior students.

The night's theme was: "Honouring everybody who wore the Crest on their Chest", and guests enjoyed a slideshow of sporting highlights from the school's history, dating back to 1963. Some of the uniforms were interesting!

Beyond the trophies and top honours, the ceremony was a thank you to the collective effort of every student who stepped onto a field or court, as well as the network of individuals whose dedication makes Rosmini's sporting success possible across all disciplines, such as the coaches, managers, volunteers, sponsors, and medical staff. There was a special mention to the mums and dads, whose unwavering support, taxi services, early morning alarms, and sideline encouragement are the foundational pillars upon which the students' sporting dreams are built.

The four main awards of the night went to:

Sporting Performance of the Year – Rosmini Rugby Junior 7’s Team – defeating Westlake in the final to win the North Harbour Junior 7s Shield for the first time since 2012.

Sports Team of the Year – Premier Basketball Team – Placing 6th at BBNZ Nationals Tournament. The Premier Basketball Team are no strangers for taking out this award having received it  9 times within the last 12 years.

Junior Sportsman of the Year – Sebastian Unga (Year 9), has achieved outstanding success across Basketball, Volleyball, Tag, and Rugby, including multiple representative selections and a North Harbour Sevens Championship win.

Sportsman of the Year – Matthew Dalton, recognised for representing basketball at the premier level for 3 consecutive years, massing up an unbelievable amount of caps. He has been a North Harbour rep at the North Harbour U20 level, and all junior age group teams. This year he also made his debut for the Auckland Men’s Tuatara National Basketball League. Mattie is one of the most humble, respectful and loyal students at our college and has done a superb job as our Sports Captain in 2025.

The Sporting Excellence Awards went to a group of athletes who have excelled not only in school and regionally, but who have also made impact nationally in their respective codes:

Edward Westcott was named in 2024 for the NZ U16 Water Polo Team and 2025 for the NZ U18 Water Polo Team.

Mattie Dalton has been playing in the North Harbour U20s and the Auckland Tuatara Men’s National Basketball League Professional Basketball team.
