The Rosmini commerce trip to Fiji aimed to provide 25 students with a valuable educational experience beyond the classroom
The group of 25 students and four staff excitedly departed Auckland Airport at 2pm, arriving in Nadi around 5pm. They stayed at the Nalagi Hotel, which offered a spectacular view of both sunrises and sunsets, especially from the rooftop swimming pool.
On their first day, the group had an early 6:15am wake-up call to begin their four-hour bus journey to Suva, the capital of Fiji. In Suva, they visited an ocean lookout, toured the South Pacific University, and made stops at the Reserve Bank of Fiji and the Parliament House. That evening, they had the unique opportunity to meet some of Fiji's rugby players during dinner at the Holiday Inn.
The group's journey continued toward Lautoka, with a visit to the Catholic Church and Primary School of Mt. St. Mary’s along the way. Once in Lautoka, they gained insight into the local sugarcane industry and explored the Garden of the Sleeping Giant, even climbing up the famous landmark. They also had time to relax and watch the State of Origin match from a rooftop bar.
A cruise, planned by Mr. Kumar, was the highlight of their last full day. The group traveled to South Sea Island where they spent their time tanning, playing volleyball, and swimming. Afterward, they cruised around some of Fiji's other islands, many of which are recognizable from popular TV shows like Survivor and Love Island. The day concluded with an Italian-themed dinner at the Sofitel Hotel, where they were treated to a traditional Fijian fire show.
On their final day, the staff at the Nalagi Hotel performed a traditional Fijian goodbye song to bless the group's journey back to Auckland. They left the warm, 28-degree Fijian climate for a wet and windy 14-degree Auckland, arriving back at approximately 2:30pm. Overall, the trip was described as both educational and relaxing.
