Year 13s reflect on student leadership at retreat

This past week, Year 13 students participated in their last-ever school retreat, a significant moment for many as they prepare for life beyond the school gates. Facilitated by the NET (National Evangelisation Teams) team from the Diocese, the retreats offered a unique opportunity for reflection and growth, centred around the theme of "Servant Leadership".

The atmosphere throughout the retreats was a blend of lively engagement and profound introspection. Students actively participated in a variety of games, fostering camaraderie and a sense of shared experience. These lighter moments seamlessly transitioned into deep and meaningful discussions, allowing students to explore the concept of servant leadership in a personal and impactful way.

For many Year 13s, this retreat served as a poignant reminder of their journey through school and the values they have cultivated. The NET team's facilitation provided a supportive and engaging environment for students to contemplate how they can embody servant leadership in their future endeavours, whether in their personal lives, further education, or nascent careers.

As they look back on this final school retreat, it is hoped that the lessons learned and the connections made will continue to resonate as they step into the next chapter of their lives.

"The retreat was a powerful time of reflection, seeing the importance of faith and sacrifices. One part that stood out to me was the story of the speaker whose father gave up everything in the Philippines to move to New Zealand, from being a University professor in the Philippines to his first job in New Zealand, being a New World worker. It really made me reflect on the sacrifices our parents make for our family, often silently, for us to have better opportunities. It has allowed me to show much more appreciation for my parents.

The theme of the day was Redefinition, talking about changing how we see ourselves and our relationship with God, and reshaping our everyday attitude. Overall, it was a meaningful day that left me with a closer relationship with God."
