Rosmini competes at Pompallier Shield 2025
The Pompallier Shield is an annual Catholic schools’ competition that brings together secondary Catholic schools from across the Auckland Diocese. On Thursday 1 May Rosmini College proudly took part once again in this special event celebrating faith, culture, and oratory.
Our students competed in a range of categories:
- Senior Oratory – Jairus Joseph
- Junior Prepared Speech – Lemuel Joseph
- Senior Scripture Proclamation – Max Wong
- Junior Scripture Proclamation – Judd Winder
- Senior Māori Scripture Proclamation – Benji Bryce
- Junior Māori Scripture Proclamation – Māara Paora-Chamberlin
- Waiata Group – Anthony Angelo, Benji Bryce, Karl Castro, Gabriel Chambers, Chris Huang, Lewis Leitner, Gabriel Maleniza, Jeremiah May, Toby Morgan, Max Williams
The week leading up to the event was anything but calm. There were last-minute changes, including a new waiata and some unexpected absences. It was a bit of a scramble, but thanks to the hard work and commitment of staff and students, everything came together on the day.
This year’s event was hosted by Sacred Heart College and began with a pōwhiri. Benji Bryce opened with a beautiful mihi whaikōrero, followed by the waiata He Hōnore, sung by all the manuhiri.
The competition kicked off quickly after that. Max Wong was first up for Rosmini, delivering a confident and impressive Scripture Proclamation. Soon after, Jairus Joseph presented a strong and thoughtful oratory. Both Jairus and Lemuel had just returned from holiday that very day, so we’re especially proud of their efforts and commitment.
Our Waiata group performed ‘Hine e Hine’, a Māori lullaby. It was originally intended as a tribute to the sick and dying, but with the recent passing of the Pope, the group chose to dedicate their performance to him instead, which was a touching and respectful gesture.
Congratulations to St Mary's College for claiming the shield for 2025.
We couldn’t be prouder of how our students performed. They represented Rosmini with pride and heart. We’ll be back next year, better and stronger.
