International students take part in Māori Hāngī

Rosmini College International students had an amazing experience learning about a traditional Māori Hāngī last week; how to prepare it, cook it, and finally eating the delicious food!

The food included chicken, pork, stuffing, potatoes, kumara, pumpkin, carrots, and cabbage. The boys learned that Māori traditionally cooked in underground steam ovens called ‘hāngī', a tasty and authentic method of cooking.

We used an above-ground hāngī style of cooking using a MultiKai Cooker. This still has the smoky earthy flavour of an in-ground hāngī using wood chips, and with the convenience of gas.

A huge thank you to the staff who were involved in organising, teaching and preparing this fantastic activity for our International students.
