Rosmini competes in Auckland Badminton Champs

Ryan Soo-Jones, Nemo Hernandez, Chris Huang, Senith Chamod, Clifford Vincely, Stanford Vincely, and Max William represented Rosmini at the 2024 College Sport Individual and Doubles Championship in Auckland.

Ryan and Nemo played in the singles category, while Chris, Senith, Stanford, Max, and Clifford (as reserve/substitute) competed in the doubles category.

The tournament format featured a round-robin stage, with singles players grouped into boxes of four and doubles into boxes of six. Only the winner from each box would advance to the knockout stage. Despite their best efforts and commendable performances, Nemo, Chris, Senith, Clifford, Stanford, and Max faced strong competition from many Division A grade players and were unable to progress beyond the preliminary rounds. Nevertheless, the experience proved invaluable as they prepare for their Nationals in Porirua in October in which they will be competing in the Div 2/B grade category.

Ryan delivered an outstanding performance, winning his singles box and advancing to the knockout rounds. He secured a decisive victory in the quarterfinals against Takapuna Grammar and then faced Auckland Grammar in a tense semifinal match, narrowly winning by a single point to reach the finals.

In the final match against Pinehurst College, Ryan was fuelled with the desire to win but unfortunately twisted his ankle four points into the game. Despite his determination, the injury worsened, and at 11 points, Ryan made the difficult decision to retire from the match. Although he was unable to complete the final, Ryan's remarkable journey in the tournament earned him the title of Senior Boys Singles runner-up.
