Premier Water Polo team compete well at top tournaments

Premier Water Polo team compete well at top tournaments

At the end of Term 4, the Premier Water Polo team competed in the Trans Tasman Cup, an event that has been going for more than 20 years, involving top teams from New Zealand and Australia.

The Premier squad had been working hard in Term 4 and our team was selected prior to this tournament.

Nine intensive games were played over the five-day tournament held at SHC.

It was a great experience for our team especially playing against tough Aussie competition.

Overall we came 7th place, with the final game of the tournament against rivals Rangitoto College in what was a competitive game. Ahead 6-3 at halftime, Rangi clawed their way back into the game and it was an exciting, tense second half. Rosmini managed to keep calm, played their game and held onto the win, despite Rangi's best efforts in the final quarter. Our first win over NZ's biggest school since 2018!

Results:

Rosmini vs SHC A2 12-4,

HBHS 4-10 loss

Tauranga Boys 4-10 loss

Trinity Grammar 10-14 loss

Melbourne High School 9-7 win

Auckland Grammar School 13-4 win

Auckland Combined 8-3 win

Newington College 6-11 loss

Rangitoto College 9-8 win

Over the Anniversary weekend 2024 the team also played in the pre-season Delfina Cup, gaining a top 4 placing, beating WBHS 6-3 convincingly - the first time in a number of years.

Although a few team members were away, this tournament provided the ideal opportunity for our younger players to step up and gain much needed experience and pool time.

An exciting final game against SHC Premier side didn’t go our way but we hope to rectify this during the upcoming season.

Onwards and upwards for the 2024 season! Thanks to Phil Lendich for managing the team at Delfina.
