New cricket director appointed

Rosmini College is pleased to announce that we have a new Director of Cricket, Mr Amita Weerakoon.

Amita is a familiar face at Rosmini, having previously held the role from 2013 to 2017, and was coach of the 1st XI cricket team for three years. Under his leadership Rosmini College won the Auckland Premier R H Marryatt Cup in 2017 and were runners-up at the 1st XI Nationals played at Palmerston North.

Amita says he is looking forward to returning to Rosmini and making an impact on the cricket program in the coming years:

“I am delighted to be back at Rosmini College as Director of Cricket and I am really looking forward to leading and enhancing the cricket programs at the school in the future. Personally for me, coming back to Rosmini is like coming back home and to very familiar surroundings and familiar friendly faces where my two sons had studied and have had wonderful memories. I strongly believe that the best practices that I have learned recently at Westlake Boys Cricket will help me to add more value to the Cricket programs at Rosmini, and help develop many bright cricketing pathways at Rosmini Cricket.”

Amita leaves his current role as Director of Cricket at Westlake Boys High School where he led the 1st XI to win the Auckland College Sport Premier 1st XI Champions R H Marryatt Cup in 2023 and runners-up at the National 1st XI tournament in Christchurch.

Amita is currently the Director of Cricket at the Takapuna District District Cricket Club, one of the largest and most successful Clubs in New Zealand. Prior to joining TDCC in 2015, Amita has 18 years of Senior business management experience in New Zealand through the iconic Whitcoulls Group.

Amita is regarded as an expert technical cricket coach in batting and bowling by his peers and has led many Academy programs for North Harbour, TDCC, Rosmini, Westlake Boys and for New Zealand Cricket.

Rosmini's Sports Director Rhys Edwards says he is thrilled to have Amita back on board. "Amita is one of the most well-known and respected coaches in the Auckland cricket community. I have no doubt that Amita will open greater opportunities for our boys and take our cricket program to the next level. It's great to have Amita back home."
