Water Polo Winter Festival 2023

Water Polo Winter Festival 2023

Rosmini Blue team had reason to celebrate as they earned the bronze placing in  'A' grade in the Intermediate Winterfest water polo tournament on the weekend of 23-25 June.

The team showed their skill and determination, as they won all their pool games against some tough competitors. In their first game, they beat one of the top teams, Dio Jaguars, winning 6-4, showcasing their strong teamwork and coordination. They continued their winning streak with a dominant victory over MBIS 7A1, winning 9-0. The third game saw a stellar performance as they scored 13 goals against Sacred Dolphins, with the opposition only managing one goal.

The team's success continued in the quarter-finals, as they secured a resounding 7-0 victory over Remuera, displaying their depth of talent. Although they suffered a setback in the semifinals with a 2-7 loss against Sacred, the team persevered in the nail-biting penalty shootout against MBIS8A1 team. It was an intense game, with both teams delivering their best performances finishing with a 4-4 at game end time. However, Rosmini Blue team maintained their focus and composure, ultimately securing a thrilling 10-9 victory over penalty shoot out.

The Rosmini Blue team's performance was remarkable throughout the tournament. Their dedication and hard work have paid off, culminating in an impressive and well-deserved bronze placing. Congratulations to the team for their outstanding effort and to coaches Ethan McKolskey and Mathew Mihaljevich who have been absolute role models to the boys, not only showing them how to play water polo at their best but also demonstrating true Rosminian values at all times.

The Red and White teams also played at Winter Fest and had some great games, both big wins and narrow losses. Red, in B grade, coached by students Oliver Sahinkaya and Liam Morley (Year 11), gained 7th place where they showed teamwork and resilience, while the White team in C grade also performed well, gaining 5th place.  New coaches Ed Wescott and Louis McFarlane (both Year 10) were very impressed with the team and also enjoyed seeing their success.

We are lucky to have our student coaches giving up their time, along with all three team managers: Tressa Joseph (Blue) Camille Coom (Red) and Clare Baker (White). Rosmini Water Polo couldn’t do it without you!
