Rosmini Prem team first to play under lights at AGS

Rosmini Prem team first to play under lights at AGS

The Premier Water Polo team were invited to play their final Auckland round match against AGS at their new school pool on Tuesday 14 March at 8pm. The atmosphere was fantastic, especially with a setting sun and playing under the floodlights. It was great to be part of the first-ever game at AGS, which was an important occasion for them.

Rosmini supporters came out in force and enjoyed an entertaining and fast-paced game. It was 1-1 at the end of the first quarter for an under pressure AGS who were superbly defended by our Rosmini players. With Mat Mihaljevich (Y12) tapping up his head to get back into the pool after injury, it was a welcome return that the team needed. Ethan McKolskey (Y12 and Goalie) stepped up a gear and had some excellent saves throughout the game to wear down the AGS attack. Half-time saw Rosmini lead 5-2 with well-executed goals from Captain Theo Johns and Mat Mihaljevich.

Unfortunately, the Grammar team along with their army of supporters, came into the 3rd quarter firing back and took control of this quarter, scoring 4 unanswered goals with strong counter-attacks. Isaac Porter managed to score in the final quarter but the game essentially was a game of two halves and Rosmini went down 6-9. We look forward to playing them again, with a full-strength team as starters; Mason Stewart and Matthew Leadbeater were unable to play.

We now play off in the Auckland league for 5-8th positions against Kings this Sunday and continue to build up for the North Island and National events in a few weeks time.

Thanks to the supporters and families who came to the game.
