Rosmini Cricket Round Up: Week 2 & 3

It has been a busy week for Cricket with the 1st XI playing three games. On Saturday 18th at Lloyd Ellesmore Park they comprehensively beat Botany Downs College in a 50 over match. Botany were all out for 137 with Fergus Maling (pictured) staring in his “baggy” match with 4 for 18 off 8 overs. Radeesha de Silva and Blake Jay also took two wickets. Rosmini chased the score down in 23 overs with just four wickets down. Sam Murphy top scored with 37 not out.

After six straight wins the team’s first loss come in a Tuesday T20 v Rangitoto College. Rosmini posted just 84 with Jackson Walsh getting 38. Rangitoto chased it down in 16 overs.

But the tables were turned on Saturday. After rain delays, the game was shortened to 40 overs. Rosmini were sent into bat and scored 178/9. Kyle Premadasa scored a flourishing 47, Sam Murphy 31. But the game was almost decided in the first over of Rangitoto’s inning with two wickets from Blake Jay who finished with 3 for 16, Jayden Clark 2 for 14. Rangitoto all out for 65.

However the match of the week was the 2nd XI win over St Peters College 2nd XI. A tough start to the year with numbers tight, Rosmini restricted SPC to 129 runs. Harry Noonan starred with the ball taking 3 for 29, and two Year 10s stepped up with Oscar Smith and Cody Rummel both taking two wickets each. A lowish total to chase and all seemed lost with 50 runs to get with just two wickets in hand. Harry stepped up again, scoring a quickfire 38 not out to win with one wicket in hand and three balls. Oscar Smith scored 25.

The 2nds next game was a tough loss to a strong Kings College 2nd XI by nine wickets.

Colts

Colts 1 missed one game due to a shortage of grounds due to the floods, and both of Rosmini artificial pitches and are unusable ate present.

They had a tough fight versus a strong Sacred Heart team who scored 168 for 7 with Jacob Pinto 2 for 13. Rosmini were all out for 98, with Ivan Zaknich top-scoring on 20.

Colt 2 are now two from three, however they lost to Rangitoto College 2 with Rangitoto posting 104 off 20 overs. Joshua Mathew bowled 2 for 12. Rosmini could only make 82, with Austin Noonan posting 17 and Shivan Sharma 17.

But, they bounced back well with a win over Takapuna Grammar. Rosmini posted 69, with Sam Morrison top scoring on 14, but cleaned up TGS for 41 with an awesome effort by Dominic Linehan bowling 3 for 2.
