Ryan Soo-Jones competes at international tournament
In November 2022, year 10 student Ryan Soo-Jones trialled for the Badminton New Zealand U19 Junior Squad and was selected into the National U19 squad for 2023. Subsequently he participated in his first International Tournament, the Oceania Junior Championship, which was held in Auckland in February 2023.
Unfortunately he was eliminated in the first round for his singles, losing to an older and more experienced 18-year-old player from Australia (Ryan is still 14 years old!). For his doubles, together with his partner, they persevered to Quarter Finals but were eliminated at Quarter Finals by the second seed Australian opponents.
It was a good experience for Ryan and he met other players from the Oceania countries Cook Islands, Guam, New Caledonia, Tahiti etc.
