Water Polo North Island Champs

Water Polo North Island Champs

The Junior A and B Water polo teams performed extremely well at the North Island Champss from Thursday 24th-Sunday 27th November, gaining the best results for both teams in many years.

The Junior B team played in the Mixed Grade, winning their first three matches to get into the top 8. They played an exceptional game against Rangitoto B in pool play, winning 5-4. Their best game of the season! Unfortunately, they lost to them in the 7th/8th playoff, however still a great result.

Huge thanks to Manager Liz Markovina, the parent supporters and Ethan D'Souza and Will Catlin for stepping in for Zach Stewart as coaches.

Meanwhile, Jun A  made it all the way to the final against Sacred Heart College in what was an extremely exciting and tense first half with the score at 6-5 at half-time. SHC got away from the team in the third quarter and the eventual result was 13-6. A hard fought match but a great result nevertheless, gaining the silver medal. Goals were scored by Louis McFarlane (2), Mikesh Hirone (2) and George Lendich (2). This is the first time since 2012 that the Junior A have made the final at the North Islands and before that it was 2002 and 1992!

Well done team, we are very proud of you. Thanks to Simon Russell, Manager, and coach Michael Slessor-White as well as all the supporters and parents.
