Scholarship Information Evening
The Scholarship Information Evening was well attended by over 100 parents of Year 11-13 and their sons on May 2nd. Mrs Tait delivered a presentation outlining what NZQA Scholarship is, the awards that can be earned, the motivations and benefits of entering one or more Scholarship subjects.
Reuben Paul (Head Boy) and Niko Snell (Academic Leader) shared their experiences of sitting Scholarship subjects as Year 12 students last year and offered some advice to current scholars on the mindset and approach for success.
Vice Chancellor, Professor Neil Quigley from The University of Waikato spoke about how NZQA Scholarship can accelerate university applications, and how skills learned from studying for NZQA Scholarships are transferable to university. Professor Quigley was also recently on the NZQA examinations board, responsible for for Level 1, 2 and 3 NCEA and Scholarship, so we were very lucky to have his insight shared on the night.
The final speaker of the evening was Amesh Wijesinha, Head Boy in 2019 who gained Scholarships as a year 12 and 13 student. He is currently in med school and shared his journey with challenges and advice on how to balance academic rigour, hobbies and other responsibilities as a university student.
On Friday 12 May any Year 11-13 students sitting a writing-heavy Scholarship subject must attend a Scholarship Breakfast Workshop. Breakfast is at 8:30am in the Pavillion, followed by a workshop led by The Write Coach, Jo Morris from 9-10 am. We are very blessed to have her coming up from Hawkes Bay to deliver this workshop. Please RSVP to Mrs Tait at the following address for catering purposes if your son is attending: [email protected]
