Envirogroup Pupuke Birdsong Pest Control Working Bee

Recently Tabitha Beecroft from Pupuke Birdsong got in touch with Rosmini Envirogroup about pest plant eradication from Rosmini land, next to Puriri Park Retirement Village. So, on Friday 21st October, after training in which plants we were eradicating and how to use equipment, we set out ready to get rid of the invasive species.

We took a very specific area and the boys chose whether to work on huge mounds of Pampas grass, Wooly nightshade trees or fields of Tradescantia. Every boy worked very hard physically and mentally finding the best way to attack these plants. Some even asked to continue through lunch time.

The boys also enjoyed discovering the varied wildlife and also the odd and ancient litter we collected.

We were very pleased with the results of one day’s hard work but plan to keep working on the site to encourage a fine native bush behind the school for all to enjoy.
