Weekly Roundup 3

Rosmini cricket was on an absolute high after the weekend with three magnificent individual performances showcasing the talent we have to offer at this school. Three boys achieved the awesome individual milestone of reaching centuries for their Rosmini Cricket sides. This is a feat which many cricketers hail as the pinnacle of their cricketing accomplishments. Scoring a hundred in any form of cricket is an outstanding achievement and something that each of these boys should be very proud of.

Year 10 student Connor Ridge was the first out of the three to score a century. He had an absolute gem of an innings which resulted in 101 (Not Out) against a very strong Sacred Heart side. In terms of age, he is very young compared to the other 1st XI players and he is sure to be one of the key members of this team for years to come.

Daniel Robinson, a member of the Junior Premiers cricket team, was the second boy to score a century. His 100 (Not Out) was scored against Albany Junior High where he blasted their bowling attack and set up a very comprehensive win for his side. He is one to keep an eye on for future 1st XI honours.

The final century went to Year 8 student, Chris Woodard who, representing North Harbour in an inter squad game, scored an exciting and skillful 105 (Not Out) – once again another magnificent individual effort: Well done boys!

Moving from our summer to our winter sports now: The North Harbour Sevens Competition is taking place on Wednesday, 24th March and Rosmini College has an Under 15 and 1st XV side representing the school. Each team is showcasing some very promising young rugby players. For further details on times and venues check out the Harbour Rugby website (www.harbourrugby.co.nz) and come down and support the teams.

Sport has always had a high profile at Rosmini College and many of our Old Boys, as well as some current pupils, are in North Shore and/or National Representative teams.

We are also very proud of our students who have gained International status in a range of sports as diverse as Athletics, Cricket, Fencing, Judo, Rowing, Sailing, Shooting and, of course, Rugby. Interestingly enough Rosmini College, which is a fairly young school has produced 5 All Blacks, Blair Larsen, Graham Dowd, Liam Barry, Anthony Boric and Rudi Wulf as well as 3 Black Caps, Martin Snedden, Chris Pringle and Chris Drum.

We stress the importance of sport in the all round development of healthy young men, believing it to be as important in their social development as classroom activities are in for their intellectual progress. All boys are encouraged to participate and develop skills in some for of extracurricular sport as well as take part in core Physical Education at all year levels.

Although the importance of competition is acknowledged, we are more concerned to encourage enjoyment of sport for its own sake to help promote a lifelong interest that extends beyond our pupil’s school years. Rosmini College prides itself in its tradition of Sportsmanship and fair play and in its ability to foster positive attitudes to exercise and sporting participation amongst its young men.
