Weekly Roundup 2

The college Orienteering series is underway with some fine individual efforts thus far and positive signs for the next events in the upcoming weeks. With a number of boys representing the school, orienteering is definitely something to keep an eye on. A weekly orienteering score sheet is on the website, so you can take a look at some of the impressive performances already posted.

With the Black Caps and Aussies battling it out and cricket being on everyone’s mind, many of the Rosmini cricket sides are continuing to show consistent performances with some of the young players standing out ahead of their older peers. Now that only a few weeks remain in the season we hope to finish strongly with some more solid individual and team efforts before the winter season rolls round.

Speaking of the winter season, coaches Mike Barry and Marc Camburn have got their 1st XV preparations under way with some tough sessions around the lake, up the hills and on the paddock: all in order to emulate the awesome efforts of the 2009 championship winning team. They have trials this week so there will, no doubt, be some boys keen to impress!

Also on the topic of winter sports, we have had record numbers turn out for the hockey and soccer teams with plenty of boys keen to show their worth. We also have six intermediate basketball teams and, by the looks of things, there will be eleven rugby sides. So things are looking extremely positive on the sporting front with plenty of action to look forward to.

Sport has always had a high profile at Rosmini College and many of our Old Boys, as well as some current pupils, are in North Shore and/or National Representative teams.

We are also very proud of our students who have gained International status in a range of sports as diverse as Athletics, Cricket, Fencing, Judo, Rowing, Sailing, Shooting and, of course, Rugby. Interestingly enough Rosmini College, which is a fairly young school has produced 5 All Blacks, Blair Larsen, Graham Dowd, Liam Barry, Anthony Boric and Rudi Wulf as well as 3 Black Caps, Martin Snedden, Chris Pringle and Chris Drum.

We stress the importance of sport in the all round development of healthy young men, believing it to be as important in their social development as classroom activities are in for their intellectual progress. All boys are encouraged to participate and develop skills in some for of extracurricular sport as well as take part in core Physical Education at all year levels.

Although the importance of competition is acknowledged, we are more concerned to encourage enjoyment of sport for its own sake to help promote a lifelong interest that extends beyond our pupil’s school years. Rosmini College prides itself in its tradition of Sportsmanship and fair play and in its ability to foster positive attitudes to exercise and sporting participation amongst its young men.
