Rosmini College is an integrated Catholic school for boys from Year 7 to Year 13 (roughly 11 to 18 years of age). The college was founded by the Rosminian Institute of Charity in 1962 and the educational philosophy is that of Antonio Rosmini, the founder of the Order. This philosophy encompasses the pursuit of excellence for all boys according to their abilities. Emphasis is placed on developing fully-rounded young men, equipped to take their place in society.

PLACES FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Rosmini College has agreed to observe and be bound by the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International students published by the Ministry of Education. The school can provide tuition for about sixty international students, preferably spread across all year levels. To be considered for a place, applicants must have arranged their own accommodation. Accommodation may be with one or both parents living in New Zealand OR with a Designated Caregiver who must be a relative or close family friend OR in a homestay which has no more than four overseas students.

FACILITIES, EQUIPMENT AND STAFFING

The main two-storey block contains administration areas, general classrooms, technology workshops, art rooms, specialist computer rooms and the Library.

Other buildings grouped around the main block include a new state-of-the-art Technology Centre (2006), a specialist Science block (2002), Auditorium (2001), a music suite, gymnasium and sports pavilion as well as extra classroom spaces and a Chapel. Construction has begun on a new multi-million dollar gymnasium.

The college is situated on 7 hectares of land which, apart from the buildings, provides for 3 rugby and 2 soccer fields in the winter, these converted in summer for cricket and athletics. There are sealed tennis courts. Sport is a major element of the school’s curriculum and a variety of indoor sports are available as well as those noted above.

Equipment in specialist rooms is up-to-date and in keeping with current curriculum needs. Computers play an increasing role in the overall educational structure and funds are constantly being invested in enhancing hardware and software supplies such that the usage of the computer as a tool can be extended to many subject areas. Music and Art equipment continue to be up-dated and extended in range. The new Technology Centre and the Science Block have been accompanied by the provision of new curriculum-centred items. The gymnasium was modernised and extended in 1999 to provide specialist fitness areas.

The school is staffed in accordance with Ministry of Education entitlements and in addition employs extra staff from its own funds, some of whom are specialists in providing English language assistance to international students. Among the staff especially appointed to meet the needs of international students is a Liaison Teacher whose special role is to look to the welfare of the international student group. This teacher is particularly concerned with helping students to fit into a new culture and to progressing in their learning so that they can quickly form part of the normal school programmes.

Academic Achievement

These cover core and option subjects according to year level and Rosmini prepares senior students for all levels of the New Zealand National qualifications system. This will ensure our students are on the accepted pathways for University and all tertiary educational institutions. Rosmini has a magnificent record in academic achievements.

International Orientation Programme

We welcome the cultural diversity that international students bring to our college. Our ESOL Director and teachers work to support international students and ensure their happy integration into student life in New Zealand. Besides offering individual and small group tuition in English, each student has access to excellent computer and audio visual facilities. Personal e-mail is freely available enabling students to maintain easy and frequent contact with home.

Students are assessed on arrival and placed according to their level of competence. ESOL classes are available as part of the tuition fees.

Accommodation

Accommodation must be arranged privately before acceptance, however the school able to suggest homestay providers. New laws emphasise the value of reliable caregivers and guardians.

Tuition fees and course-related costs

The tuition fees for 2008 are $NZ14,000.00, payable in full once enrolment has been approved. These fees cover teaching costs, Catholic Attendance Dues, standard text-book usage and non-returnable classroom notes. The tuition fees may change from year to year.

There are additional costs for every student (including non-international) that will vary for each student according to year level and subjects studied. Stationery, school uniform, class trips, materials fees in some subjects, special tuition such as in music, external examination entries (Years 11-13) and sports participation fees are the possible areas of cost. (For a student involved in ALL of the above, approximately $NZ1000.00 would normally cover a year’s charges.)

Non-school based costs applicants must also consider involve accommodation, insurances including health and general living costs. These will vary according to personal choice and circumstances.

School Size

Rosmini limits its size to about 1000 students. Students are motivated and well-disciplined.

Location and Climate

Rosmini College is situated on Auckland's North Shore, close to the city of Takapuna and on major bus routes. Students at Rosmini enjoy Auckland’s all year round, mild climate.
