The curriculum is based on the New Zealand Curriculum Framework and students at all levels are encouraged to reach their full potential. Able students are extended academically and support is available to those with learning difficulties.
Intermediate Level
The bulk of the Year 7 intake enters Rosmini from the four contributing North Shore Catholic Primary Schools with the remaining places allocated according to our Enrolment Policy. From Year 7, boys become accustomed to being taught by a different teacher for each subject and moving from room to room.
Homework and assignments are given from Year 7 on to foster good study habits and reinforce work done in the classroom.
Subjects taught at Rosmini College at Years 7 and 8 are: Drama, English, Maths, Science, Social Studies, Maori, Music, Art, PE, Religious Education.
Pupils are introduced to Cross Curriculum Computer Studies. Examinations are held twice yearly.
From Year 7, boys are encouraged to participate in the Australian English, Science and Mathematics Competition and we have had considerable success at the various levels.
ESOL classes are available for second language learners needing support with English.
Senior Level
Students follow the curriculum laid down by the New Zealand Educational Framework plus PE and Religious Education at all levels.
There are internal examinations twice yearly. Senior students are expected to enter the relevant national qualification for their level.
There are two streamed forms at Year 9 and boys are moved into and out of these forms according to their aptitude and attitude. All Year 9 students have classes in the core subjects: English, Maths, Social Studies, Science, Maori, Music, French, Graphics, Art, Technology. At Year 10 Economic Studies is added.
In Years 12 and 13 Tourism and Computer Studies are both available and many students undertake multi-level studies. Some Year 12 and most Year 13 students enter the University Bursaries examinations and the most able students are encouraged to enter the New Zealand Educational Scholarship Trust Examination.
Automatic entry to Year 12 subjects is determined by gaining Level 1 NCEA National Certificate and Literacy and Numeracy.
We stress the importance of examinations and all students in the Senior school (Years 11-13) sit three sets of examinations to prepare them for the National Qualifications at the end of the year.
Rosmini College is justifiably proud of its record of achievement in external examinations.
