De Paul House Certificates of Appreciation PDF Print E-mail

Rosmini College Year 13 students – Moonho Goo, Matthew Crighton, Damian Corbett, KyuHan Kyeong, Hemi Thomas, Emilio Torres, Michael Hammond, Sam Carrington, Liam Thornley, James Brenan, Sam Page and Tyler Jelas were recently awarded De Paul House Certificates of Appreciation.

The boys have spent this year volunteering at the De Paul House Homework Centre. Lorraine Owens, De Paul House’s Residence and Resource Co-ordinator, says “the students from Rosmini provided a wonderful role model for these children, especially the boys, many of whom did not have a male figure in their lives.  I feel the boys also gained from being with these children, being able to give some of themselves back to the community in this way and it has possibly provided them with a very real sense of what social justice is all about.”

She adds that another benefit was that “the students gained great insight into what De Paul House did – Emergency Housing and Family Support.”

Food Drive: 3rd Term 08 PDF Print E-mail

From the 15th – 26th September Rosmini College’s Year 13 Catholic Character Group conducted a school wide food drive through St Vincent De Paul House to feed Auckland’s less fortunate. Deputy Head Boy Sean Ra says “we got the students to bring in as much food in as possible.” Year 8 student Cameron Hogg (13) of Castor Bay rose to the challenge admirably by bringing in a staggering 114 cans. He went around his Castor Bay neighbourhood, knocking on people’s doors and asked for cans. Cameron said he did this “to give Rosmini a good name and to fulfill our school motto - Legis Plenitudo Charitas or ‘Charity fulfils the Law.’”  Year 9 students Tim Wightman (13) and David Sharp (13) of Glenfield also went around their neighbourhood and between them collected 120 cans. They described the experience as “fun.”  Year 13 student Samuel Carrington of the Catholic Character Group concludes “I’m just glad to know that somewhere out in Auckland City less fortunate people will get a feed thanks to the students of Rosmini College!”
